Washington Renegades Rugby Football Club
- The Washington Renegades RFC—North America’s first International Gay Rugby (IGR) club—is seeking a dynamic and inclusive Head Coach to lead our DIII and DIV sides for the upcoming 2026/2027 competitive cycle.
Who We Are
Based in the heart of Washington, DC, the Renegades are more than just a rugby club. We are a mission-driven organization dedicated to inclusivity, actively recruiting and supporting the LGBTQ+ community. We compete in USA Rugby’s Capital Rugby Union in Division 3 and Division 4 and represent DC globally at the Bingham Cup and North America Cup.
The Role
We are looking for a leader who believes that competitive excellence and a culture of "Rugby for All" are not mutually exclusive. You will be the architect of our on-field identity, managing a diverse roster ranging from seasoned veterans to those picking up a ball for the first time.
Primary Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership: Develop and implement a comprehensive game philosophy for pre-season, matrix matches, and post-season play.
Coaching Oversight: Identify, mentor, and lead a staff of assistant coaches to ensure consistent development across all sides.
Technical Instruction: Lead practices (Tuesdays/Thursdays, 7:00 PM – 9:00 PM, beginning August 13) that challenge experienced players while remaining accessible to newcomers.
Game Day Management: Direct 15s matrix matches during the Fall and Spring seasons.
Culture Stewardship: Maintain a harassment-free, high-enjoyment environment that mirrors the Renegades' ethics of inclusion and accessibility.
Required Qualifications
Certification: Current World Rugby Level 1 (or higher) Coaching Certification.
Experience: Minimum 1 year of rugby coaching (Club level preferred).
Soft Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse membership.
